There’s Nothing Fun About Social Media – Episode #94 – Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!

This episode came out almost a month ago, but I realized we never posted show notes for it. My bad!

In this episode, Tobias, Tori, Sully, and Edwin (of Mid Shelf Gaming) review Science Saru‘s enthralling tribute to the creative process in Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! Directed by the hit-after-hit director, Masaaki Yuasa, who announced his retirement shortly after the series wrapped up. Get some rest, sensei! You earned it.

This series touches upon the pathos of being a creator in ways I rarely see in anime, while also avoiding a lot of the tropes from other series about high school girls. It also provides a glimpse into producing anime, from the early days of multiplane cameras and cels to more modern techniques of digital animation, as well as highlighting the emotional and mental labor that goes in to creating each work. If you need further convincing, we even did a podcast on it! […]
