#71 – Interview with Linda Young (Voice of Frieza in DBZ)

Last weekend, at Animazement in Raleigh, NC, Sully got the chance to sit down with voice actor Linda Young, most famous for her iconic portrayal of the evil Frieza in the first Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Z!

Besides Frieza, Linda has a long history of acting and voice work, from stage and commercials, to other anime roles. Notably she can be heard as Genkai in the dub of Yu Yu Hakusho, and the land lady in Double Decker. She also frequently works with her son, fellow voice actor John Burgmeier, voice of Tienshinhan in Dragon Ball and Shigure Soma in Fruits Basket.

Linda is still active as a voice actress and professional jazz singer, and can be found at anime and Dragon Ball conventions across the country. Sully sat down with Linda to discuss how she got started in the business, how she was cast to play Frieza in the Funimation dub, and what it’s like to be such an iconic part of a beloved anime franchise.

Thank you so much for coming on the show, Linda!
