Now that 2018 is a fair bit under way, I figured it was a good time to follow up to my best of 2017. As I said, 2017 was by far the best year for gaming in a really long time. From what is to be released this year, 2018 is looking to be up there as well.
Monster Hunter World
Technically, this is already out, but the PC version isn’t so it counts. Jon and I basically became good friends playing Monster Hunter together. It’s one of my favorite series, and from what I’ve played/from what I saw before release, the changes made to this game make the player’s life so much easier. New monsters are as unique as ever, some of the designs may as well be Pokemon.

The grind has also been significantly cut back, so you don’t have to repeat the same hunt over and over as much. I’m enjoying the PS4 version right now, and hope to enjoy the PC version as much when it comes out in the fall (hopefully).
Spider-Man (PS4)
SPIDER-MAN! I WANT GAMES OF SPIDER-MAN!
Spider-Man 2 to this day is the best Spider-Man game ever. I think this will top it. The open world, unique mechanics, and hopefully good story all have me hyped. One way to describe my expectation would be Arkham Asylum but with Spider-Man and in NYC. As of right now, it has no firm release date, but it is expected by Q2 of this year. Don’t let me down Insomniac.
Kingdom Hearts 3
Hurry it up Nomura my patience wears thin. I don’t have enough words to express exactly how hyped I am for this game to come out after all of this time of waiting. I just want to fly around on Baymax and slay heartless.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Ok Nomura, focus on Kingdom Hearts 3 first, but then hurry it up and get this out. Final Fantasy 7 has one of the best stories of all the Final Fantasy titles, and with the overhauled combat system I’ve seen, I could not be more excited than to sink God knows how much time into this remake.
Norman Reedus and the Disappearing Fetus Death Stranding
I really don’t know what to say about this game but I am a huge Norman Reedus fan, and it is weird enough to have my attention. That, and Kojima is a genius whose art will not be appreciated until his games are considered retro. Seriously why is Daryl pregnant?
Megaman 11
Out of NOWHERE, this game was announced. I wondered if the releases of the legacy collections meant that something was on the horizon but i didn’t ACTUALLY expect anything. But when it was announced I was so excited to jump into the shoots of the blue bomber again. Please don’t be Mighty No. 9 all over again.
Detroit: Become Human
The story and atmosphere of this game looks so compelling that I imagine I will have trouble putting this down once I pick it up. This game had been delayed for so long that I was legitimately surprised when it came up at the past E3. I hope the long wait has allowed the developers to perfect this title and make it what it has the potential to be. I also love that it already has controversy when no one has seen any of the “controversial” scenes with context, or even if they’ll make the final cut at all.
The Last of Us 2
Last summer I picked up The Last of Us Remastered and immediately fell in love. The story and gameplay were a ton of fun, and I fell in love with the characters. Based on the trailer, hell hath no fury like a woman’s scorn. I can’t wait to see what has got Ellie so pissed off at the world, and can’t wait to see how the Walking Dead-esque scene resolves.
Metroid Prime 4
We only got a jpeg and a mp3, but it was enough to get me beyond excited. Just SEEING that this game exists and is being worked on is more than Metroid fans have gotten in a very long time. I believe in you Nintendo, don’t let me down.
Fire Emblem: The Unknown Chronicles
We know basically nothing except that this game is probably coming out in 2018, but it’s Fire Emblem on the Switch. I’ve loved my Switch so far, and I expect they’ll deliver a great game.
There is a lot we still don’t know about most of these games, and I can’t wait to see what else this year has in store for us that has not been announced yet. Let me know what you’re excited for as well!
Until next time~
