Ahhh, yes. Another show based on a 4-koma manga series, ripe to potentially steal my heart. Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles is based on a 2013 manga series by Naru Narumi that was first adapted into a live-action TV series airing from 2015 to 2016.
The series follows main character, Yuu Oosawa, as she tries to get to know our other main character, Koizumi-san. Koizumi, in her outward appearance, is the cool loner type, but on the inside, she is an insatiable ramen connoisseur. This show has unique structure that definitely reflects its 4-koma origins, much like Azumanga Daioh. It’s fun with some unexpected comedic moments and a good art style to go with it.
However, the first episode is not without flaws. It’s quite slow to start and doesn’t offer the same appeal as perhaps, a show about cooking. This is a show about eating, and for this to work, there needs to be more substance and real humor within the plot of this show, not just catering to ramen Otaku and stalkers.
I’m not sold on this one yet, but I would encourage you to watch it for yourself and form your own opinion. This show still has plenty of time to rebound after a slow start, so I hope that this episode is an anomaly within an otherwise fun and interesting show. This review series could get bad if this show sucks. Let’s hope not, for my own sake.
Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles streams on Crunchyroll and VRV on Thursdays.
