Wrapping up 2024 at Third Impact Anime

Third Impact Anime reflects on 2024.

Happy New Year, everyone! We hope your holiday season has been refreshing and relatively stress-free. This year brought its fair share of happenings to Third Impact Anime and we’d like to take a minute to highlight some of them.

In January, we said farewell to our longtime co-host Tobias as he went on to pursue other adventures. You can find him regularly contributing to The Carbuncle Chronicle: A Podcast About Final Fantasy XVI.

Austin, Tori, and Ryan started a series of reviews covering the entirety of Attack on Titan now that it’s finally concluded. We managed to review all of Season 1 (in two parts, here and here) with reviews of the OVAs and subsequent seasons on the way in 2025.

In March and April, we attended two conventions as special guests, providing a number of panels for Ret-Con in Cary, NC and StellarCon in Greensboro, NC. Sarah and Bill did a seasonal review podcast talking about the winter anime of 2024 including Delicious in Dungeon, The Apothecary Diaries, and Brave Bang Bravern!

May saw us return to Animazement once again as featured panelists where Austin, Tori, and Sully performed a modest 12 hours of panels including some brand new ones; ABSOLUTE TRIVIA FIELD: An Evangelion Trivia Panel, Beyond K-Pop, Otaku Bookshelf: Books About Anime and Manga, and more.

In June, Sully hosted a fun and fascinating interview with Zoe O’Haillin-Berne and Garrett Kilgore, two board members of the International Wizard of Oz Fan Club, about the 1986 anime The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

June saw us celebrate our 150th episode where Bill took it upon himself to design and host our first ever trivia episode, putting Austin, Sully, and Tori through the wringer. That proved to be a huge hit and was one of our best performing episodes of the year! If enough people twist Bill’s arm, he just might do it again.

We reviewed two major fantasy series’ in August, one new and one older; Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and Spice and Wolf (2008). Both episodes featured our friend and frequent collaborator Will (SwooshBear) whose video game YouTube channel you definitely need to subscribe to right now.

Tori and Austin attended Otakon this year in Washington, DC, Austin for the first time and Tori for the first time in a decade. To talk about the experience, we brought on Coop (RiderStrike) and Maddy (hyakushiki0087) for our Con-versations episode. It was a huge pleasure to talk with them about the con, and to confirm that yes, Mike Toole does exist in real life. Who knew!

For Halloween in October, Austin, Sully, and Tori reviewed the spooky series Mononoke (2007) and in November, Sully hosted his second massive interview surrounding the Discotek release of Re: Cutie Honey featuring returning guest and Cutey Honey expert Salvatore (RetroSofa), returning guest and ADR Director for the OVA, David Wald, and none other than the voice of Honey herself, Jessica Calvello. With how star-studded and fascinating the interview was, it’s no surprise that it’s our second most downloaded episode of the year!

Finally, we rang in the holidays in two very special ways. First, Austin and Sully returned to join our Lupintic friends at the Sideburns and Cigarettes Podcast for their annual holiday special to talk about a tenuously-Christmas-themed episode of Lupin the Third. Second, we participated again in the Taiiku Podcast’s Anime Secret Santa project. Austin and Bill have partook for a number of years but this was Tori and Sarah’s first time joining in the festivities and they had a great time.

And that’s the Third Impact Anime year in review! We want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported us by listening to the show, donating to the Patreon, following us on social media, chatting with us on Discord, or otherwise tolerating our presence. We hope you’ll join us for all the cool anime stuff we have cooking for you in 2025. Until then, go watch some Japanese cartoons and take it easy.

Oh! And one more thing, for your amusement.
